What is a homeowner’s exemption?

This is a property tax break that the state of California gives to residential property owners who also occupy this property for their principal place of residence. It reduces the taxable value by $7000. The property owner must file for this benefit. The Assessor tries to notify anyone who might be eligible for this benefit, however if the taxpayer does not file no benefit will be given.
